Hatch Restore 3 vs Echo Spot (2024): Sunrise Routine or Alexa?
Choose Hatch Restore 3 when you mainly want a built-in sunrise and bedtime routine. Choose Amazon Echo Spot (2024) when voice alarms, linked audio and compatible smart-home control are the jobs you want at the bedside.
Manufacturer documentation checked October 24, 2026; no hands-on sound, light or wake-up tests.
Which requirement decides the purchase?
| Requirement | Hatch Restore 3 | Echo Spot (2024) |
|---|---|---|
| Morning cue | Integrated sunrise, sound and repeat days configured in the Hatch app. | Alexa alarms and tap-to-snooze; compatible smart lights add a separate lighting path. |
| Changing tomorrow’s alarm | App edits; physical snooze, stop and all-alarm toggle. | Create alarms by voice; manage them in the Alexa app. |
| Evening audio | Hatch’s included and optional paid library; not a Bluetooth speaker for your own audio. | Audio sources linked with Alexa; check service access. |
| Ownership check | App and Wi-Fi setup. Hatch requires a Hatch+ trial during setup; basic features remain after cancellation. | Alexa app, Amazon account and Wi-Fi internet; check service terms. |

Decide whether light belongs inside the clock
Restore 3 combines its lamp and sound in one app-built alarm. Hatch lets you select repeat days, sunrise duration, brightness and sound; light or sound can also be switched off. That suits someone who wants a dedicated evening-to-morning routine without building a separate smart-light arrangement.
Echo Spot’s color display shows information and alarm controls. Amazon documents Alexa light alarms using compatible smart-home lights. Those add another device and its setup. A colorful clock face alone does not establish the same light exposure as Restore 3’s diffuser.
Compare setup obligations before audio libraries
Restore 3’s free functions and initial enrollment are separate questions. Hatch says a free Hatch+ trial is required during setup, while cancellation preserves basic features. Check the renewal date if you do not want to continue paying. Choosing included sounds does not remove the app and Wi-Fi requirements for setup and app-based changes.
Echo Spot belongs to an Amazon-account workflow. Separate ordinary alarm use, your chosen Alexa experience and any linked music subscription. Amazon’s current US Alexa+ terms distinguish access included with Prime from a paid full-access plan without Prime; its free non-Prime chat tier is not equivalent to full device access. This does not establish that Prime is required for an ordinary Alexa alarm.
Rehearse the action you will use half awake
On Restore 3, pressing the Big Button snoozes; holding it stops the sounding alarm. Turning it changes volume. Its side alarm toggle disables all scheduled alarms, so use the app when you want to disable only one.
Amazon documents tapping Echo Spot to snooze. Check the supported stop action and repeat schedule in your actual Alexa interface, especially if you plan to mute its microphones. Microphone-off does not establish an equivalent physical control for every voice task.
Treat network loss and power loss as different requirements
Network setup, saved-alarm execution, streaming and an offline restart are different operations. These sources do not settle every interruption state or establish a complete light-and-sound alarm through a power cut.
For an essential wake time, arrange a separately powered alarm whose required output you have verified. The backup-power guide explains why retained settings are a narrower feature than a working alarm.
Decide whether voice access is welcome in the bedroom
Echo Spot (2024) has no camera, but it does have microphones and a microphone-off button. Amazon’s setup guide explains cloud processing and reviewing or deleting voice history. No camera does not mean no account data or network activity.
If avoiding accounts is essential, use the local-control sunrise shortlist; neither of these connected setup paths meets that requirement.
Questions that can change the choice
Can Echo Spot replace Restore 3’s sunrise without another light?
The checked Amazon guidance describes Alexa light alarms with compatible smart lights. It does not establish an equivalent integrated sunrise lamp in Echo Spot (2024).
For model-specific details, read the Echo Spot (2024) review.
Can I skip Hatch+ enrollment and still set up Restore 3?
Hatch’s Restore 3 FAQ requires a trial during setup. It separately says you can cancel and retain basic features. That does not establish a trial-free setup route.
For model-specific details, read the Restore 3 review.
Can Restore 3 play the same personal music or podcasts as Echo Spot?
Hatch says Restore 3 plays its own library and is not a Bluetooth speaker. Echo Spot supports audio sources linked with Alexa. Check the particular service and account terms.
For model-specific details, read the Echo Spot (2024) review.
Which should I buy for a household with two different mornings?
First check repeat days, stop actions and how much light or sound reaches the other person. Neither device provides a private signal merely because multiple alarms can be set. Use the couples comparison if disturbance is the deciding problem.
